SHARING THE SUMMIT

I’m not convinced there are many things in life that beat the feeling of summiting a mountain. Whether you see the process of hillwalking as exhilarating and energising, or arduous and exhausting, arriving at any peak offers a tremendous sense of achievement. When we are lucky enough to get the views, or even when it’s partly cloudy, reaching the summit can be a truly magical experience as we look down upon the world below. It is certainly an endeavour worth celebrating.

In Scotland we are fortunate enough to have 282 magnificent Munros, easily reached within a few hours’ drive, plus an endless array of other worthy hills. With several inviting mountain ranges to choose from, including the Mamores, the Nevis Range and the Cairngorm National Park, Scotland offers incredible days out involving vast and remote plateaus, rugged Craggs, rolling peaks, crystal clear lochs, steep paths, winding paths and majestic wildlife. Hill walking and Munro bagging ensure a grand day out resulting in each walker waxing lyrical about every detail of their wild and wonderful adventure: every slippery step, every viewpoint, every blister, every sip of water drawn from fresh mountain springs. There is not much that compares to the giddy fever brought on by summit bagging.

Knowing that such joy and reward can be gained from spending time in the mountains, it would be rude not to share all of the wholesome thrills that a day in the hills can provide. And in Scotland there’s plenty of room for all! My passion is to introduce people to the stunning scenery of the Scottish landscape, to take them to remote places they might not venture to without a guide, and to empower them with the skills, knowledge and confidence to safely explore the hills on their own terms. And there is so much to learn about our mountain environments, from conservation and land management to weather systems and wildlife. Summits are for sharing!
